Import Existing Emails

Migrate your emails from other providers to SipherMail easily

Migration Overview
SipherMail supports importing emails from all major providers

The import feature is available to all users (individual and business accounts). You can migrate your emails using MBOX, EML ZIP, or Sipher JSON formats.

Microsoft 365 / Outlook

Export Steps:

  1. Open Outlook and go to File → Open & Export → Import/Export
  2. Select "Export to a file" and choose "Outlook Data File (.pst)"
  3. Select the mail folders you want to export
  4. Choose a location to save the .pst file
  5. Use a PST to MBOX converter tool (e.g., pst2mbox, readpst) to convert the .pst file to .mbox format
  6. Upload the resulting .mbox file in the SipherMail import wizard

Note: Outlook exports to PST format by default. You'll need a converter tool to convert PST to MBOX. Many free and paid tools are available online.

Google Workspace / Gmail

Export Steps:

  1. Go to Google Takeout (takeout.google.com)
  2. Select "Mail" and choose the Gmail account you want to export
  3. Choose MBOX format in the export options
  4. Click "Create export" and wait for Google to prepare your data
  5. Download the .mbox file when ready
  6. Upload the .mbox file in the SipherMail import wizard

Tip: Large Gmail accounts may take several hours to export. You'll receive an email when the export is ready.

Proton Mail

Export Steps:

  1. Log in to your Proton Mail account
  2. Go to Settings → Import/Export
  3. Click "Export" and select the folders you want to export
  4. Choose MBOX format
  5. Download the .mbox file
  6. Upload it in the SipherMail import wizard
Tuta

Export Steps:

  1. Log in to your Tuta account
  2. Go to Settings → Export
  3. Choose to export as EML or MBOX format
  4. If exporting as EML, zip the folder containing the .eml files
  5. If exporting as MBOX, use the .mbox file directly
  6. Upload the file in the SipherMail import wizard
Other Providers (Yahoo, iCloud, Fastmail, etc.)

General Instructions:

  1. Export your emails from your provider to MBOX or EML format
  2. If your provider doesn't support MBOX/EML export, use a third-party tool to convert your mail
  3. For EML files, create a ZIP archive containing all .eml files
  4. Upload the .mbox file or .zip file in the SipherMail import wizard
Using the SipherMail Import Wizard

Step-by-Step:

  1. Go to Settings → Import Emails (individual) or Org Settings → Import Emails (business)
  2. Select your email provider from the list
  3. Follow the provider-specific export instructions shown
  4. Choose the file format (MBOX, EML ZIP, or Sipher JSON)
  5. Upload your exported file
  6. Enter your IMAP/App Password (this is securely encrypted and only used for the import)
  7. Choose the destination folder (Inbox, Archive, Sent, etc.)
  8. Confirm and start the import
  9. Monitor the import progress in the job history

Note: Large imports may take several hours. You can close the browser and check back later - the import will continue processing in the background.
